Why it’s different
Why HR is different in Education
HR for schools and colleges — teaching and support staff on one record, per-campus holiday calendars, and complete files before an inspection.
Teaching and non-teaching staff follow different attendance expectations, different leave patterns and different working years, but sit in the same payroll and the same compliance regime.
Cover for an absent teacher has to be arranged the same morning, and the record of who actually taught which period rarely makes it back into any system.
Accreditation and inspection require complete staff records — qualifications, verifications, contracts — and the gap is usually discovered during the inspection rather than before it.

Questions
Education HR, answered
Yes. Schedules, leave policies and attendance rules are assigned per employee, so a teaching timetable and an administrative working week can run side by side without maintaining two systems.
Leave types are assigned per employee rather than applied uniformly, so teaching staff, support staff and contract roles can each carry their own entitlements and accrual while sitting in one leave system.
Document types are configured per institution and requested from individual staff, with outstanding requests visible without opening each file. That is what turns an inspection from an archaeology exercise into a report.
Campuses are locations, each able to carry its own holiday calendar. A campus closed for a regional holiday does not have its staff marked absent, and reporting still rolls up across the institution.
Leave and the resulting gap are visible on the same day rather than at month end, and shift or schedule changes are recorded through an approval trail — so the record of who covered is captured rather than remembered.
Payslips, leave balances, documents and policy answers are available through self-service, which removes most of the queue outside the HR office in the first week of term.
